Moving forward into a sustainable era.
The team of students and teachers from Uruguay La Casa Uruguaya (LCU) took the first prize in the Solar Decathlon Latin America and Caribbean 2015 (SDLAC). We are very proud for having been part with our models in the most important competition of architecture, design and sustainable engineering.
The main interest for this team was to improve the quality of living of the most compromised social environments and educate users about consumption and energy savings. “This makes people gain more consciousness about the present situation”, as their project says. It was then a must to combine an effective construction with the principles of sustainability to reach an efficient home for everyone to have.
The claim for LCU was “More with less”, to build a better future with more comfortable houses and less resources, more efficiency with less energy consumption. And that was the biggest success for the team as they were the indisputable favourites for the public, obtaining more results and special mentions.
How LCU scored:
- Innovation: 1st place
- Energetic balance: 1st place
- Sustainability: 2nd place
- Operation of the house: 2nd place
- Comfort: 2nd place
- Architecture: Honor mention
- Communications and marketing: Honor mention
After being awarded for every test, the final award ceremony took place, where the winner of the SDLAC 2015 was: La Casa Uruguaya, followed by the house Alero in 2nd place and the house Hiscali in 3rd.
We couldn’t have imagined a better ending of our year 2015 and take this opportunity to wish our readers the same success, happiness and motivation in 2016.
